Originally from Bolton and infamous Man City supporter, Mark is currently hosting two BBC radio shows from Media City, The Folk Show on Radio 2 and the Radio 6 weekend Breakfast Show alongside Stuart Maconie.
Indeed, he’s been a constant mate to everyone on radio for four decades, pushing Manc humour and attitude, beginning as a producer on Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio and later at Radio One, before getting behind the mic, presenting Hit The North for Radio Five and The Guest List on Radio One. Then there were the legendary Nineties Marc and Lard shows with Marc Riley, former guitarist with The Fall, also on Radio One, where pre-net, they hosted the Breakfast Show which everyone had on the ‘wireless’ as they made their way to work or school… “It was the biggest show in Europe – until we took it over” he laughs.
Moving to the afternoon slot, the double act stayed with Radio One for seven years winning three Sony Awards, and, since 2000, Mark has kept working for the BBC at Radio 2, in 2009 winning the Sony Gold Award for Best Music Broadcaster.
As if that wasn’t good enough, Mark’s written four books, including Showbusiness – Diary of a Rock ‘n’ Roll Nobody documenting his time in rubbish bands…but continues to get on stage, teaming up with Paul Langley with his latest combo, UNE, which The Guardian describes as ‘lovely, plaintive electronica over which Radcliffe sings’…
Priya currently presents Desi Beats and Monday Mornings on Switch Radio in Birmingham, featuring the best in Asian music and interviews with upcoming Asian artists. Desi Beats has already won two Gold community radio awards for Best Specialist Music Show but even as a Broadcast Journalism student in 2019 at Salford University, Prya was winning a Student Radio Award for her weekly show on the uni’s Shock Radio.
She has also featured on BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 4 and done voiceover work for BBC Radio 5 Live and for the online Punjab 2000 station where she presents the Top 10 Punjabi Music Charts and spins new releases.
With a top personality, Priya has also hosted loads of events, ranging from the Birmingham Festival to the media industry’s Nations and Regions conference. She has also been a guest speaker on the Journalism’s Rising Stars Panel alongside BBC Digital Cities.
